George Paresishvili

George Paresishvili is a seasoned professional with more than 29 years’ experience in emerging and frontier markets, Wall Street and London. Currently he is the chairman of Republican Stock Exchange Toshkent. During his career he has worked in the areas of stock exchange, clearing, settlement and custody of securities, brokerage, sales and trading of fixed income and equity securities, debt and equity capital markets, treasury (foreign exchange and money markets), corporate and investment banking, wealth and asset management, investment advisory, private banking.

Between 2021 and 2022, George Paresishvili conducted several USAID-funded local capital market development consulting projects in Central Asia, acting as an independent international consultant and capital market infrastructure expert. His assignments included analyzing the legal framework and state of local capital market infrastructure in Turkmenistan and Tajikistan, writing recommendations to create a roadmap for local securities market development, drafting regulations on the provision of brokerage services, and issuing local corporate bonds. George also conducted intensive training sessions for local stakeholders, including the securities market regulator in Turkmenistan, other government agencies, and local brokers and issuers.

George has been chairman of the board of the Tashkent Stock Exchange since September 2022. Prior to that, he was CEO of the Georgian Stock Exchange and chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Georgian Central Securities Depository. He joined the Georgian Stock Exchange in November 2014 from Terabank, where he was chief commercial officer and board member responsible for corporate and retail banking. Prior to this, George founded EastWest Family Office with his Swiss partners, serving high net worth individuals in the Caucasus and Central Asia region. Until September 2012, he was Deputy CEO and Board Member of Liberty Bank, responsible for capital and asset management, overseeing Private Banking and Liberty Securities (Liberty Bank’s securities broker-dealer subsidiary). George joined Liberty Bank in February 2011 from Bank Republic, Société Générale group, where he was Asset Management Director and Board Member. Prior to joining Bank Republic, George was Managing Director and Global Head of Sales at Galt and Taggart Securities, a broker-dealer and investment banking subsidiary of Bank of Georgia. Prior to this appointment he was Head of Asset and Wealth Management at the Bank of Georgia, overseeing, among other things, the brokerage, sales and trading and DCM/ECM activities of Galt and Taggart Securities. At the same time George managed the Aldagi-BCI pension fund, the largest private pension fund in Georgia. George joined the Bank of Georgia from Credit Suisse First Boston, where he worked in Emerging Markets Trading in London and Mortgage Trading Finance in New York.

George holds an MBA from the University of Michigan’s Ross Business School in the US and a bachelor’s degree in economics with honors from Tbilisi State University.
