In the first 9 months of 2006, as many as 8,474.26 million shares and rights worth US$3,081.90 were traded, a decrease of 35.48 and 53.11 percent respectively compared to the corresponding period of 2005. TEPIX stood at 9,556.05 at the end of this period while the Market Capitalization reached $36,096.16 million; these figures were down by 5.83 percent and 5.17 percent respectively as compared with the first 9 months of 2005. During the 3rd quarter of 2006, the first seminar on foreign investment was held sponsored by one of the TSEs official brokerage firms with the cooperation of Tehran Stock Exchange (TSE), Organization for Investment, Economic & Technical Assistance of Iran (OIETAI) an affiliation of the Ministry of Economic and Financial Affairs, and other institutions. The Seminar was held on the occasion of the first year of the approval of the by-law for Foreign Portfolio Investment (FPI) .
