The performance of the ASE during the year 2005

The performance of the ASE during the year 2005 was exceptional. ASE Price index reached its all time high during the year 2005 reaching 9348 point in November, and closed by the end of the year at 8192 points with 93% rise compared to the previous year. Trading volume during 2005 increased by 345% compared to the year 2004 to reach US$23.8 billion, the number of shares traded also increased by 93% compared with the year 2004, reaching 2.6 billion shares. The number of transactions increased by 103% compared with the year 2004, reaching 2.4 million transactions. The turnover ratio for the ASE increased to 94% compared with 58% for the year 2004. It is worth mentioning that all ASE performance indicators for this year are the highest since the Amman Financial Market was established in 1978. The ASE market capitalization increased by US$19.2 billion reaching US$37.6 billion, an increase of 105% over the end of 2004, and representing 327% of the GDP. Net investment of non-Jordanians showed a positive balance of US$583.1 million, compared to US$97.2 million during 2004
