WFE holds annual assembly in Athens

Tuesday, 2 October 2018

The World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) and the Athens Stock Exchange together rung the traditional opening bell in Monday’s session in the Athens Stock Exchange, signalling the official start of WFE’s annual assembly and the general meeting in Athens, October 2-4.

The meetings will bring together 300 participants and include a programme of 14 speeches and a panel open to non-WFE members.

“The presence in Athens of managers from 98 stock exchanges around the world, members of WFE hosting around 45,000 listed companies with a capitalisation of more than 82.5 trillion US dollars, is a great honour for Greece,” Socrates Lazaridis, ASE CEO told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency on Monday. He added that “the meeting is an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences with our colleagues on issues such as financing of SMEs through capital markets and ways to enhance our role in safeguarding transparency, corporate governance and sustainable growth”.

Mrs Nandini Sukumar, WFE’s CEO, said: “During the next few days we will approach not only the crucial issues affecting the sector of capital markets’ central infrastructure, but the world in general, such as Brexit and sustainability. A part of the discussions will also focus on the crucial role of markets in promoting their renewal”.
